Women’s U19 Head Coach Named for Uganda

 

The Uganda Lacrosse Foundation, in conjunction with the ULA, has tapped Christine “Chrissy” Schreiber to lead the first ever Women’s U19 Team Head Coach representing the Country in the 2019 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women’s U19 World Games this August 1-10 in Peterborough, Canada.

 

Coach Schreiber is currently in her second season as assistant coach of the St. Anthony’s High School girls’ team in Huntington, NY. She has also served as a coach for the Long Island Express on the girls’ club lacrosse circuit. “I’m very excited for this opportunity and am looking forward to providing an experience of a lifetime for the young ladies,” said Schreiber after being selected.

 

Schreiber enjoyed a successful high school career as a two-time all-league selection, two-time captain, and was selected as a US Lacrosse All American player her senior year. There, she helped her team win four consecutive Catholic League Championships. Her passion for coaching and inspiring young women is evident by the many clinics she continues to host today.

 

She continued her lacrosse career at Rutgers University. There, Schreiber majored in a combination of Journalism and Media Studies, and Labor and Employment Relations. A four-year player for the Scarlet Knights and was the first person to receive the Rutgers Leadership Award in 2015 for her volunteer work and community service. In 2013, she worked closely with the Uganda men’s national team and had the opportunity to travel to Uganda as a volunteer, visiting many villages & cities.

 

Her father, Doug, is a member of the Long Island & US Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Her older brother, Thomas, is a member of the US Men’s National Team, participates in the National Lacrosse League and will play in the inaugural season for the Premiere Lacrosse League (PLL) the summer of 2019.

The Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) is the international governing body for men’s and women’s lacrosse. The FIL currently has 62 member nations and holds five World Championships: Men’s Lacrosse World Championship; Under-19 Men’s Lacrosse World Championship; Men’s World Indoor Lacrosse Championship; Women’s Lacrosse World Championship; and Under-19 Women’s Lacrosse World Championship. Each event is held on a quadrennial basis. The FIL is responsible for the governance and integrity of all forms of lacrosse and provides responsive and effective leadership to support the sports’ development throughout the world.
