ST. MARY'S HIGH SCHOOL-MANHASSET: 34

Congratulations to our girls!!

They brought their AA Games to the League Finals on Saturday at CW Post.
The first quarter it was evident that both teams had final game jitters. Shots that would normally fall were not going down for either side. The teams each had small scoring runs and the score at the end of the first quarter was St A's 9 to St Mary's 7.
The back and forth continued with the score at the end of the half St A's 21 and St Mary's 20.
Our girls came out with resolve after half time and proceeded to shut down St Mary's star player with air tight deny ball defense. And although Tamia Lawhorne ran into foul trouble racking up her fourth before the end of the half making her unable to return until the fourth; her twin, Taylor Lawhorne and and Syd's sister, Synclair Taylor filled in admirably and held our ground for her down low.
Using discipline, patience and pinpoint execution, our girl's outscored St Mary's to go up by 9 at the end of the third.
Sydney Taylor picked the perfect time to turn in her all around best game of the season, logging her first Double-Double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Ashia Smith also turned in one of her best performances adding 14 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 8 steals.  Toni Kinard's timely outside shooting kept St Mary's from being able to sit back comfortably in a zone and only focus on Syd Taylor.
Lauren Hackett earned MVP for simultaneously running our offense while stifling St. Mary's Kadaja Bailey. She, coupled with the team's swarming help defense, held Bailey scoreless in the second half.
Our Final Score was St Anthony's 60 and St Mary's 34
The girls are now on to the State's Semi Finals this Friday at 6pm at St. Raymond's Boys School in the Bronx.
