St. Anthony's Can't Quite Erase 5-Run Deficit In Loss To West Islip

WEST ISLIP HIGH SCHOOL: 8

Despite a 5-run deficit in the fourth inning, St. Anthony's almost came all the way back, eventually falling 8-6 to West Islip on Saturday. St. Anthony's scored four runs in the failed comeback. Cameron Leary and Billy Fitzgerald came through with RBIs to lead the rally.

St. Anthony's fell behind early in the loss. West Islip scored on a single by Anthony Cinquemani, an error, a single by Jack Altieri, and a single by Nick Siano in the first inning.

In the first inning, West Islip got their offense started when Cinquemani singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Michael LaDonna led the West Islip to victory on the pitcher's mound. He went four innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out one. Bobby DiCapua and Brad Battaligni entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

TJ Mulroy took the loss for St. Anthony's. He went one inning, allowing five runs on three hits, striking out two and walking one.

St. Anthony's launched one home run on the day. Leary had a long ball in the fifth inning.

St. Anthony's totaled 11 hits in the game. Tyler PodolskyLearyMarco Ali, and Anthony LoCurto each managed multiple hits for St. Anthony'sLoCurtoAliLeary, and Podolsky each collected two hits to lead St. Anthony'sSt. Anthony's tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Jake Barrett led the way with two.

West Islip didn't commit a single error in the field. Mike McElwee had the most chances in the field with eight.
