Win: 5 - 2
Team prays through intercession of Terry Farrell to earn first victory of the season.  It was a beautiful day in Terry Farrell Park where it's dedicated to a man who lost in life in 9-11. The team prayed through his intercession and took the courts ready to play. Singles swept the line up of SJB B team and won all 3 points. Payton Darcy won in a tiebreaker marathon match that lasted almost 2 and half hours, Irene Zarkadas (6-2,6-2) Rose Christie (6-3,6-2 beat their opponents respectfully using great strategy and their strong forehands putting shots away. Christina Sabella and Holly Strang used their attack game to win 6-2, 6-2 as Kaela Deriggi and Kate Farrell came up short in a tie breaker second set losing 2-6 6-7 (1-7) but worked really hard to almost bring it to a 3rd set. Third doubles won 7-5, 6-3 and used strategy and consistency to seal the win.   4th doubles started out slow but picked it up in the last set but came up short. Doubles took 2 out of the 4 points giving the Friars a 5-2 win for Varsity B Girl's Tennis.  Coach Clauberg

Saint Anthony’s B comes up short after a valiant effort.  FRIARS 1       COUGARS 6   Payton Darby playing the 1st singles spot, Lady Friar Payton fought to the end, losing in a close marathon match  7-6 (8-6), 1-6, (9-11).  Irene Zarkadas really improved in her first showing going from 1-6, 3-6 and stepping up her game as the match went on. Anna Larson lost in a tie breaker as well in a hard fought battle. She went 6-4-2-6 and lost in a tie breaker (10-7). Carly Karniewich started off in a tough 1st set match 1-6 , but then improved tremendously losing a close second set 4-6.   Doubles: Holly Strang & Christina Sabella played a very strong SJB A team, fighting and constantly hustling and changing strategy up but played a strong opponent in a 1-6, 2-6 loss. Captain Kaela DeRiggi with partner Kate Farrell came up short with a hard fought loss at 3-6, 2-6 Maeve Finnegan used her veteran Tennis IQ on the court with strategic attack at the net and placement as  Rose Christie the newcomer from Bayshore made some incredible hustle plays and used her athleticism for a close victory ( 6-2, 4-6, (11-9). They earned Coach Clauberg’s Under Armor Players of the Game.  Jillian Keogh and Molly Finnegan started meshing the second set as they lost  the first set 2-6 and then a close second set at 4-6.   Coach Clauberg -  Was very happy with his teams success even know the score doesn’t show how close the match was. They played well overall and saw some great things. We just have to tie up some loose ends. They competed and they never gave up… what more could you ask for?
