O'Mara Adds ECAC Player of the Week Award to MAC Freedom Honor -

DANBURY, Conn. – After the best offensive week of her young career, freshman Melissa O'Mara (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) of the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team added ECAC Div. III South Region Offensive Player of the Week honors on Wednesday to the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week recognition she received on Monday.
 
O'Mara filled up the stat sheet for Manhattanville in two wins last week, recording 17 points on 16 goals and one assist while adding 26 draw controls, 13 ground balls and seven caused turnovers in two contests.
 
The freshman started the week with seven goals, seven ground balls, 12 draw controls and five caused turnovers in a 19-9 win over Alvernia University on Tuesday. Then on Saturday in a 24-19 win over Western Connecticut State University, she recorded a season-high nine goals with an assist to go with six ground balls, two caused turnovers and a season-best 14 draw controls.
 
O'Mara is already just the sixth freshman in school history to record 50 points, having scored a team-high 39 goals with 11 assists through seven games in addition to a team-leading 35 ground balls, 21 caused turnovers and 55 draw controls. She enters the week leading the MAC Freedom in goals per game (5.57), points per game (7.14) and ground balls per game (5.00), while also ranking second in the conference in both caused turnovers (3.00/gm) and draw controls (7.86/gm) and fourth in assists (1.57/gm).
 
At the national level, O'Mara enters the week seventh in Division III in points per game and eighth in goals per game, while also ranking in the top-25 in draw controls (13th) and caused turnovers (24th) per game.
 
Manhattanville is set to return to action on Wednesday with the team's non-conference finale at Rutgers-Camden beginning at 4 p.m.
