Posted on 06/03/2024

The girls lacrosse season has been nothing short of amazing. Every player on our varsity girls' lacrosse team has come together as one, working for each other and striving for something greater than themselves. They all play a pivotal role in our victories, demonstrating our strength lies in our unity.

This team has shown remarkable resilience and teamwork - winning triple overtime games and making stunning comebacks in games. Every practice has been a testament to each player’s dedication and unity. This truly is a season to remember, and it’s a direct reflection of all the hard work and spirit of every player on this team.

Every practice has been a step towards greatness, with each player contributing their best effort. The hard work and dedication shown during our practices have been incredible. Our practices are not just about honing skills but also about building a bond that carries us through the toughest of times. This camaraderie and mutual respect have been the foundation of our success.

The girls job is not finished. Tomorrow night they face Sacred Heart for a third time this season in the League Championship at 7:00pm at Adelphi. This is another opportunity to showcase their talent, hard work, and the unity that has defined us all season long. The girls are ready to give it their all, knowing the best is yet to come.

Congratulations to the varsity girls lacrosse team on a great season.

Head Coach Darcy Messina

2012 Alum New Head Coach

Posted on 08/21/2023

Friars welcome back one of our remarkable 2012 Alums, Darcy Messina to lead the St. Anthony’s Girls Lacrosse Program. Ms. Messina’s vision, knowledge, and commitment makes this new era of lacrosse at SA very exciting.

Coach Messina used her high school success as both a 2X US All American and part of a 4X NY State Catholic Championship team to become a starting offensive player at the University of Florida.

In her four years at the University of Florida she was All American Lacrosse Conference Champion, 3X Big East Champion, awarded the All-Southeastern Conference Honor Roll, and twice earned Big East Honor Roll (‘15 and ‘16); all while getting her degree in history and education, and most recently completing her masters in guidance. Ms. Messina will be working in the guidance department entering her second year here at SA.

Ms. Messina’s vision now as head coach is to set clear expectations for the continued success of the program and foster strong communication between her staff and players while working within the school to allow for a smooth transition.

Messina stated that, “It's truly a full circle moment to be back at Saint Anthony’s High School. The values, morals, and sense of community instilled within these hallways and on our fields became the guiding compass of my life.To return to Saint Anthony’s as a guidance counselor and as the varsity girls lacrosse head coach is both humbling and incredibly fulfilling. I’m blessed to experience this homecoming — filled with memories, pride, and a deep commitment to continuing the legacy of excellence that Saint Anthony’s represents. The legendary and beloved Brother Cletus Burke had a profound impact on my life during my time here. His guidance and unwavering belief in me shaped who I am today, and I'm dedicated to carrying his legacy forward as I lead and inspire the next generation of students and athletes. Saint Anthony’s holds a special place in my heart, and I'm deeply committed to upholding its faithful traditions both on and off the field.”

Messina took her education and lacrosse skills and joined one of Boca Raton’s top private schools, St. Andrew’s, where she was the Varsity Girls Lacrosse Coach for the past five years while teaching history. During her tenure in Florida she became the American Select Lacrosse Team Head Coach (‘22 and ‘23) for the State of Florida and Head Coach for the Florida Select Lacrosse Club.

Her strong lacrosse skill-set paired with her commitment and dedication to St. Anthony’s makes her a great combination to now lead the Friars
