The women’s crew team set out this year with a goal of racing at Scholastic Rowing Nationals. The girls achieved their goal when the girls 2nd varsity eight and varsity eight won the New York State Championship, taking home gold medals and the championship plaques. Their first place finishes earned the women’s team two automatic bids to Nationals. Also at states, after a dramatic race delay, our freshmen girls four raced down the 1500 meter course, came straight to the dock, switched one rower out for sophomore Taylor Hilt, and then had less than 6 minutes to go back to the start line for the novice four race. To give this perspective– it takes a varsity 8 roughly 5 minutes and 15 seconds to complete the course. Time was not on their side. The four rowers and coxswain not only made it back to the starting line in time (which was a shock to the coaches by itself), they came in a true first at the New York State Championship – beating out 8 other club and scholastic crews in the final. The success and the depth the women’s team has is all a testament to the work ethic and talent the women have. We are excited to race on Friday at Nationals, and for our six seniors to further their success with the women’s program.
