The Varsity spring track season has been nothing short of electric, with every part of the team stepping up in a big way. From rising young sprinters and jumpers to the hurdlers, throwers, vaulters, and distance runners, the Friars have been grinding, sharpening their edge, and elevating the program to new heights.

Heading into the season, Kellenberg, Chaminade, and St. Anthony's looked neck and neck—but meet by meet, from Maryland to NYC to Long Island, the Friars began to break away. That hard work paid off in a big way this past Saturday, when we captured our 16th consecutive League title—this time by a commanding 30-point margin.

Leading the charge were League Champions Sean Maloney (pole vault), Julian Sans de Viteri (triple jump), Anthony Morello (discus), Thomas Whidden (javelin), and James Ciaccio, who dominated both the 800 and 200 meters and anchored the victorious 4x400 relay alongside Jack Vahey, Vincent Sorrentino, and Jonathan Cataldo. Ciaccio's clutch performances earned him Meet MVP honors.

Even more exciting? The future is bright—a record-breaking 8 freshmen and 5 sophomores earned Varsity letters this season. With the State Catholic Meet, State Federation Championships, and New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia still ahead, the Friars aren’t done yet.

Head Coach

Coach Dearie has coached three seasons a year since 1984 (133 seasons in total and 85 at Saint Anthony’s High School).  Coach Dearie is the winningest Coach in NY State Federation Cross Country Championship history, capturing five overall state titles.  His teams have won 58 Long Island Catholic Championships and 26 State Catholic Championships.  He has coached over a hundred All–Americans and was recently inducted into the Saint Anthony’s Athletics Hall of Fame.
