The Friars Varsity Basketball Team enjoyed a very successful season finishing with a record of 19-8. The team finished ranked in the Top 20 in the state while finishing in the Top 10 in the Long Island rankings.
A challenging schedule included victories over multiple top Teams in NY State in Holy Cross, Portledge, Knox, St. John the Baptist, and Holy Trinity.
All-League players included Caleb Aurilean, Tommy Snyder, and Kevin Moore.
The team finished tied for 2nd Place in the Catholic League with a league record of 8-4. In the last month of the season, the team finished with 12 victories in its final 13 games, including a semi-final playoff victory over the #3 ranked team on Long Island, St. John the Baptist.
The team reached the Catholic League Finals for the 4th time in 7 years, losing to Chaminade in a tough and competitive game at Hofstra University.
I would like to thank the tireless efforts of the entire Coaching Staff at all levels, as well as the Training Staff of Ed Modica and Steve DeSoussa, and the School Athletic Office and Administration at St. Anthony’s for all of their support and efforts throughout the season.
A special thanks to the parents and players who commit and sacrifice for the success of the program.

Head Coach
Mr. Lagano has been a teacher at St. Anthony’s HS for 34 years and has been the Chairman of the Health and Physical Education Department since 2004. He began his coaching career at St. Anthony’s HS in 1989 by coaching the Freshman and JV
Basketball and Baseball teams. He moved on to Suffolk Community College in 1993 for 4 years and moved on to NCAA Division 2 at NYIT for 18 years before returning to coach at St. Anthony’s in 2015. Mr. Lagano has coached multiple players who have played professionally overseas and has been a decorated coach at the High School and College levels. Since returning to St. Anthony’s in 2015, the team has been built into one of the most successful programs on Long Island including 3 Catholic League Championships. Coach has helped multiple St. Anthony’s players go on to compete in college at Division 1, 2, and 3.
