Winter Season Recap

--2023 Recap
The season began as it always does with our 10 mile run.
A week later we faced off against a dominant University High from West Virginia. Next up was the North Babylon tournament. 4 wrestlers reached the finals, 2 took home the championship. Next up was the tough X-Caliber tournament in Pennsylvania, where we would face off against some of the best in the nation. The team would finish 2nd with one athlete making the finals. Over Christmas recess the team hosted the Friar Bash, the team won the tournament with 6 Friars taking home the coveted hammer. That night the team got on a coach bus for our annual trip to Georgia for the Prep Slam. The team took 6th out of 32 teams, with one wrestler making the finals. We came home, and after the break, we began our dual meet season, first was a 36-28 win over Kellenberg, followed by a 57-15 win over St. John’s. We traveled upstate and lost our first dual of the season against Div 2 State champion Tioga, 40-30. That weekend we wrestled in the Southern Tier Memorial, finishing 6th out of 27 teams. We returned home and defeated Holy Trinity 57-15. We finished the regular season with a loss to rival Chaminade 41-29. We began the postseason with the CHSAA duals where the team would go 3 -3, suffering losses to Farrell, Iona, and St. Joe’s Collegiate. The League tournament was next with 8 Friars reaching the finals and finishing with 7 Champions. The next weekend 12 of our wrestlers qualified for the Catholic State tournament at St. Anthony’s. The team finished in third place, with 4 wrestlers reaching the finals and 2 winning the championship qualifying them for the NYS Federation Tournament in Albany. At the tournament, both wrestlers fought hard but came up short of landing on the podium.
Thank you to our seniors and congratulations to the Varsity Wrestling Team on a great season.”
