Team MVP - Jason DeCaro

The Varsity Baseball team ended a 22 year drought when they captured the NSCHSAA Regular Season title with a league record of 13-4. In an extremely competitive league where only two games separated the top five teams, the team won 8 of their last 9 league games including a walk-off win against St. Francis Prep and a dominant 4-1 win over rival Chaminade to clinch the one seed for the first time since 2001.

Led by seven all-league players, the team was among the league’s best in offense. Multiple players finished among the league leaders in average, RBIs, and home runs. Senior Jason DeCaro is a finalist for Player of the Year and Sophomore Phil Mazzola is a finalist for Catcher of the League.

In a league dominated by pitching, the Friars were led by their two aces Jason DeCaro and Torin Kassebaum. The two combined to let up less than 2 runs a game while striking out over 100 batters in 70 innings of work. Kassebaum’s body of work earned him a finalist for Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive year.

The 15 graduating seniors have helped set the standard of success in the baseball program. Over the last two years, the team is 27-8 in league play with back to back top 2 finishes. 

This year, the team is two wins away from their second championship appearance in the past four seasons.

Head Coach
 

Paul Parsolano has been the Head Varsity Baseball Coach here at St. Anthony’s since 2019. Previously, he was an assistant coach at Cold Spring Harbor High School from 1993-94. In 1994, the team captured the New York State C Championship. From 1995-2007, he was the assistant coach here at St. Anthony’s where he helped lead the Friars to their last league championship in 2000. In 2008, he took over as the pitching coach at St. Dominic High School and was on the staff when the school won their only league championship in 2009. From 2014-2018, he served as the Associate Head Coach at St. Joseph’s College where he led the team to Conference Championships in 2016 and 2018. Since returning to St. Anthony’s as Head Coach, the team has seen improvements in each of the following years including a Championship series appearance, multiple players going on to play at the collegiate level and winning records each of the last two seasons.
