2018 NSCHSAA League Champions

Season MVP Morena DeVito and Scholar Athlete Britney Dowling

Coaches Season Review:
In addition to being named All League, Morena DeVito placed 2nd for 1st Singles at the League Tournament & Alice Fong tied for 1st in the League Tournament at the 2nd Singles position.

Girls Badminton had an outstanding comeback season this year. After a tough 0 - 12 season last year, the girls worked incredibly hard and placed 3rd this season with an 8 - 4 record! St. Anthony's came in right behind the League Co-Champions St. John the Baptist and Our Lady of Mercy Academy, who were both the only teams to beat St. Anthony's this year. The girls left everything out on the court and never gave up.

As a team, five of the seven ranking positions finished with at least a .500 season and overall, out of the team's 8 victories, 7 of those matches were won with at least a 5-2 split.

As a 2007 graduate herself, Miss Roveto has been part of the St. Anthony's Community for the past 15 years. She teaches biology and marine science during the day and for the past three years she has coached Girls JV Soccer and been involved with the Girls Badminton Program. Upon the conclusion of her first season as Head Coach for Varsity Badminton, Miss Roveto was just named CHSAA Coach of the Year for the 2018 season. Along with her assistant, Miss Garry, who teaches ESL for UTP in the International Office and who played Badminton in both High School and College, Miss Roveto would like to thank the girls for an incredible season and for all of their hard work.

Roveto Named Coach of the Year

Updated on 06/10/2022

Congratulations to first year Head Coach
Jenn Roveto Named CHSAA Badminton Coach of The Year, 2018!!

Roveto took the helm of an 0-12 team this spring with expectation set to accomplish a few wins and create an environment that inspired girls to want to win.

Ending the season as CHSAA League Champions, she more then inspired! They claimed their title with a 5-2 win over a strong Sacred Heart Academy.

With a regular season record of 8-4 it left some questions of what to expect going into playoffs. The Friars only losses came from St. John the Baptist and Our Lady of Mercy who where the schools to beat when the season opened.

With two schools to look out for and reasonable expectations Rovetto did not realize her team had plans of their own, they meant business. Winning their opening day match 6-1 vs. St. Mary's and then their second match 5-2. It was clear that the SA was no longer an easy win. Next the teams traveled to tough competitors  SJB and OLMA  who also meant business, shutting down the Friars in back to back matches in a 5-2 fashion.

Rovetto had two schools to work around but continued to inspire her team all the way to a Championship. With a new league title next was doubles and individual champs. OLMA swept the doubles in clear fashion while St. Anthony's Jr. Alice Fong tied for 1st in her singles round and Sr. Morena DeVeto got second in her singles round.

Congratulations to a hard working and committed 2018 team!
