Winning championships is nothing new for St. Anthony’s Francesca Rossi.

Heading into Thursday night’s CHSAA Individual girls bowling tournament at Plainview Lanes, it was no surprise that all eyes were on her.

“I knew that everyone was going to be looking at me,” Rossi said. “I bowl well under pressure, so I just had to stay calm, not get frustrated and take it frame by frame.”

The CHSAA’s leader in average (191) during the regular season, she didn’t disappoint. Rossi bowled the tournament’s high game with a 240 in Game 1 of a 690 series to win the event.

The senior earned her first CHSAA Individual championship as a freshman and captured another individual title last season.

Katie LoPiccolo (St. John the Baptist) finished second, rolling a 202 in Game 3 of a 537 series, and Kellie Sandas (Kellenberg) had a 192 in Game 3 of a 518 series to place third.

LoPiccolo and Rossi have bowled against each other for four seasons and have become close friends.

“I love her as a person and I look up to her for bowling,” Lo Piccolo said of Rossi. “I know we are the same age, but I can still look up to someone like that. I aspire to be that perfect and want to work as hard as she does.”

Rossi worked tirelessly during the offseason on perfecting her game with her coach.

“I changed my entire form and worked constantly with my coach,” Rossi said. “Everything I did this year was completely different from last year. My coach told me that I had even greater potential to become a better bowler and I listened to him.”
