Girls JVA Basketball vs. Sacred Heart Academy-Hempstead
5.0 years ago | Sharon Scubla
Lose: 36 - 45
SAHS Friars        36 Sacred Heart.     45 What a difference home court makes! Our fearless Friars came to play. Strengthened by resolve to protect their home court, they came out strong with non-stop ball pressure. The game was even for most of the first, a few offensive miscues and turnovers gave Sacred Heart a run to go up 13 by the half.  Our girls came out tough in the second half and chipped away at the lead to get as close as 7. We had great play from all. Relentless ball pressure applied by the 2 guard combo of Conte and Rivera, aided by the insertion of Greco and Ferreira had Sacred Heart  turning over the ball constantly. Unfortunately, we were not able to hold the ball ourselves. Our Friars threatened again in the 4th with the insertion of the steadying influence of Alfano at the 3. We were ultimately not able to make up the deficit, but it was a GREAT game! We will meet Sacred Heart again on Tuesday at SHA for the league semi-finals. Scorers: Erin Conte.             10 pts Caroline Kehoe.   10pts Felicity P Davis.      7 pts Noelle Alfano.          4 pts Kaylee Ferreira.       3 pts AnnaBella Cole.       2 pts Head Coach Lynn Miller

Lose: 27 - 45
SAHS              27 Kellenberg      45 It was a floor better suited for ice hockey than basketball!  Our girls played hard but went down 9 to 15  at the end of the first quarter.  Our inability to hit open shots hampered us and although the defense tightened up, we still went down 9 to 5 and 9 to 4 in the next 2 quarters.  The hot hand of Caroline Kehoe in the last quarter pushed the Friars scoring up to 9 for the last quarter, but our inability to stop their big from scoring down low sealed our fate as our girls fell after a valiant fight to the Firebirds. Keep Fighting Friars!!!! Scorers: Caroline Kehoe        8 pts Erin Conte                 6 pts Chiara Greco             4 pts Giannah Rivera          2 pts Bella Cole                   2 Pts Tayrah Cange             2 pts Felicity P. Lose: 35 - 48
SAHS         35 OLMA         48 It was a fierce competition marked by massive runs on both sides. Our girls went down 16 to 1 to start and then went on a furious comeback to go up 3 and ended the half with a tie score. The third quarter saw our girls go down again as uneven foul calling put OLMA at the line for 14 foul shots to none for the Friars and we went down 16 again. Two major players fouled out and our Friars only managed to make up 3 points of the deficit by the end buzzer. We will meet them again and handle our business.  Good Effort Girls!!   Scoring: Erin Conte                 10 Felicity Davis               8 Sabrina Squicciarini    6 Annabella Cole           5 Noelle Alfano              2 Tayrah Cange            2 Gabby Miller               2
Girls JVA Basketball vs. Tottenville High School

Lose: 24 - 46
St. A JVA 24 Tottenville 46 Tottenville, who beat Truman by 10 the week before, was hit hard in the first as our girls came out with lead 14 to 11. In the second, our shooting cooled off and we were down 19-23 at the half. A disastrous third quarter where we were outscored 21-5 spelled the end of the Friars hopes. Keep your heads up Friars!! Scoring: Giannah Rivera     9 Erin Conte             8 Tayrah Cange       2 Kaitlyn Browne      2 Annabella Cole     1 Head Coach Lynn Miller
Girls JVA Basketball vs. Harry S. Truman High School

Lose: 29 - 40
SAHS       29 Truman    40 The score was Truman 14, SAHS 4 at the half. Our girls had no answer for the sheer size of Truman's 6"3" center combined with the athleticism of their two guards. After the half we valiantly struggled to stop their onslaught and went down another 11 points in the third.  We knew we needed to keep the ball out of the center's hands and finally in the fourth, the combination of Giannah Rivera and Erin Conte on the point trap started turning the ball over. Our girls caught fire behind the defensive energy and went on a 17 to 7 run get back in this and make it a game!  Absolutely fantastic effort by the whole  team! They got a standing O from the crowd and may not have won the game, but definitely took a moral victory from that one!!!

SA 44 SJB 14 St A's Girl's held St John's scoreless for the first six minutes of this contest, goin up 9 to zip.. St John's answered bringing the score to 9-6... a timeout to settle the team was called. The Friars then went on a 10-0 run to make it 19-6 and St John's had no more answers. Our team played hard and the score reflected it.  Great Game Girls!!
Girls JVA Basketball vs. Holy Trinity High School

Win: 50 - 17
SAHS   50 HT         17 It was a nice free run of a game for our JVA Girls with Coach Hugh at the helm.  Holy Trinity gave it a go but were totally outclassed by the high powered energy on the floor for the Friars. It was never a contest. Scorers: Chiara Greco.     10 Caroline Greco   10 Annabella Cole   10 Kaylee Ferreira.    4 Giannah Rivera.    4 Felicity P. Davis.   4 Tayrah Cange.       4 Noelle Alfano.        4
