Friars Grab Lead in Sixth Inning to Defeat Chaminade

St. Anthony's defeated Chaminade 8-3 on Wednesday after taking the lead late in the game.  The game was tied at two with St. Anthony's batting in the top of the sixth when Michael DeSantis singled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs. Chaminade got things moving in the second inning.  Jason DeCaro's wild pitch allowed one run to score for Chaminade. St. Anthony's notched four runs in the seventh inning.  Tajjiddin Farmer and Edward Lippert each drove in runs during the inning. Declan Sullivan earned the win for St. Anthony's. The bulldog surrendered one run on one hit over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. James Weedon took the loss for Chaminade. The bulldog surrendered four runs on four hits over five innings, striking out five. DeCaro started the game for St. Anthony's. The pitcher went four and a third innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out eight St. Anthony's smacked one home run on the day. Lippert put one out in the seventh inning. St. Anthony's Varsity Friars stayed in it until the end, but Chaminade pulled away late in a 2-1 victory on Friday.  The game was tied at one with Chaminade batting in the top of the eighth when Vincent Roman singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. The pitching was strong on both sides. Chaminade pitchers struck out 12, while St. Anthony's Varsity Friars sat down seven. Chaminade evened things up at one in the top of the fifth inning when Andrew Kontos induced Nolan Nawrocki to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored. Andrew Heiderstadt was credited with the victory for Chaminade. The ace went four innings, allowing zero runs on one hit and striking out six. Connor McCreery took the loss for St. Anthony's Varsity Friars. The pitcher went two innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out four. Kontos started the game for St. Anthony's Varsity Friars. The righty lasted six innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out three J.J. Gatti started the game for Chaminade.
